The ring system, where rings are mounted to cable with a fixed spacing, is ideal as a method to prevent snow accumulation by inhibiting snow rotation.
As shown in the Table, various snow resistant rings are available to suit the use conditions. When replacing or installing new cable, please use SL cable (Snow Less cable, see page at right) which reduces labor during cable stringing by forming the rings during cable manufacturing. Both have the same effectiveness in preventing snow accumulation. |

Twist prevention damper |

A twist prevention damper is effective for preventing rotation of the cable itself. Dampers are mounted at a rate of approximately 1 for each 100 m of span length. |
With SL (Snow Less) cable, rings are mounted during cable manufacturing. There is no need to mount SR (Snow Resistant) rings after cable stringing, so the construction period can be shortened, and this contributes to a significant reduction in construction costs. Estimating with ACSR160–410 sq cable, installed normally over a length of approximately 3 km, there is a reduction of about 15–35% in the overall cost of restringing. There is also a reduction in aerial work time, and this reduces costs and dangerous work at high locations.

High-strength snow resistant tape |
| Snow melting cable prevents snow accumulation by using the magnetic field produced by current in the energized wire to heat the cable with the iron loss produced in the cable. |

High-strength snow resistant tape
When high-strength snow resistant tape is wrapped onto existing transmission lines, the adhesion of snow weakens, and pieces of snow fall off while they are still small. The tape is wrapped in a spiral fashion, leaving a slight gap, using a wrapping machine specially for high-strength snow resistant tape. Snow resistant rings are also used to further break down the pieces of snow.
Please note that the scope of application is determined by the voltage, wire size and number of conductors used. |
